Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Cowry Tech News (“CTN”, “we”, “us”) is published by Lone Cowry, an East Coast, DC based company. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit cowrytechnews.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

What we collect and why

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how readers use the site, such as which pages are read and how visitors arrive. We run it in Google consent mode v2.

  • Before you make a choice, or if you decline, no analytics cookies are set. Google still receives limited cookieless signals (“pings”) about page visits. These include your IP address and browser user agent, as is standard for any web request.
  • If you click Accept, analytics cookies are set so we can measure visits more accurately.
  • Advertising storage is always denied. We do not use analytics data for advertising.
  • Google processes this data on our behalf as a processor.

You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie preferences” button in the site footer.

Morning Brief email signup

If you sign up for the Morning Brief, we store the following in our own WordPress database:

  • your email address
  • which signup form you used, and the post you signed up from
  • the consent text shown to you at signup
  • a hashed (non-reversible) version of your IP address
  • your browser user agent
  • the date and time of signup
  • your subscription status

We use this only to send you the Morning Brief and to keep a record of your consent. Signup is currently single opt-in. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by contacting us.

We send the Morning Brief through an email delivery provider. It receives your email address and basic delivery and engagement data (such as opens and clicks) so it can send the newsletter and process unsubscribes. This data may be processed in the United States.

Search

Site search runs on WordPress with the Relevanssi plugin. Search queries are not logged.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on our own virtual private server. Like any web server, it processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver pages and keep the site secure.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use advertising cookies.

How long we keep data

  • Email signup records: for as long as you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep only the minimum record needed to honor the unsubscribe and show consent. We keep a backup of signup records in secure cloud storage that only our team can access. When you ask us to delete your data, we remove it from our signup list and backups.
  • Google Analytics data: retained according to the data retention setting in our Google Analytics account.
  • Server logs: only as long as needed to operate and secure the site.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the EU and UK GDPR and US state privacy laws such as those in California, Virginia and Colorado, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you
  • correct it
  • delete it
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing
  • object to or restrict certain processing
  • receive a copy of your data in a portable format
  • not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

Where GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for analytics cookies and the Morning Brief, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site for basic server processing. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your request, and we will respond within the time the law requires.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will give clearer notice, such as a note on the site or in the Morning Brief.
