Standards

Voice

Serious capability, refreshingly clear. Short sentences. Named systems, cities, and constraints. No dunk culture, gossip, or empty “disruption.”

Sourcing

News claims need at least one accessible human source or a primary document. Speculation is labeled. Corrections run promptly and plainly.

Independence and disclosure

Cowry Tech News is the media arm of Lone Cowry Ventures. When a story features Lone Cowry, Cowry Labs, portfolio products, or the founder, we disclose that relationship in the piece. We do not publish undisclosed advertorial.

AI-assisted work

Research and drafting tools may be used. A human editor owns facts, framing, quotes, and the publish decision. Volume is never a waiver on accuracy.

Africa-positive framing

We cover African tech and policy with agency and evidence. We avoid deficit-only or exoticizing frames. Critique is allowed; caricature is not.

Audience honesty

Every piece should be clear who it is for and what a reader can do next — without a sleazy CTA. Firm calls-to-action appear only on disclosed firm-aligned pieces.

Imagery

Prefer real photos, charts, and primary-document stills. Do not fabricate news-event photos or pass AI art as documentary coverage. When no licensed image exists, use on-brand abstract/editorial stills or OG art — labeled as illustration or AI-assisted art in caption/credit. Fake people, fake scenes of real events, and unlabeled synthetic “news photos” are banned.

Advertising (later)

Ads and sponsorships, when introduced, will be labeled. Editorial and commercial lines stay separate.

Corrections

Email or use the contact form with the URL, the error, and the correct fact. We update the story and note material corrections.
