The model succeeds GPT-5.6 Terra in ChatGPT Work and Codex for paid plans and costs $1 per million input tokens in the API, half its predecessor’s price, according to OpenAI.
OpenAI on Monday released GPT-6.1 Terra, which it describes as “a fast, efficient model that combines detailed visual reasoning and precise computer use alongside clearer, more natural writing.” It is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and to developers as gpt-6.1-terra at $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens, which OpenAI says is 50% below GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. OpenAI says the model completes computer-use tasks more than three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, and that its error rate on an internal set of error-inducing prompts fell to 16.7% at low reasoning effort from 53.6% for GPT-5.6 Terra. All benchmark results are OpenAI’s own. The company says the model meets the Critical cybersecurity threshold in its Preparedness Framework and keeps the safeguards built for GPT-6 Astra; for the hardest coding tasks it still recommends its larger models.
