Google Cloud customers will be able to buy OpenAI frontier models through Model Garden and count the spend against existing Google Cloud commitments; OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
OpenAI and Google Cloud said on Wednesday that OpenAI’s frontier models and its Codex coding agent will be offered in Google Cloud’s Model Garden, purchased through Google Cloud Marketplace. Google says the models are “rolling out now in private preview to select enterprise customers in Google Cloud’s model garden, with more coming soon.” Enterprises with Google Cloud spend commitments can draw them down on these purchases, which also count toward Flexible Savings Plans, and the models will come to Gemini for business and Google Antigravity. “We are focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI,” said Google Cloud chief executive Thomas Kurian. OpenAI’s announcement ends with one line: “Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.”
