MongoDB says encrypted fields can now be searched by the start, end or middle of a value, so autocomplete and partial-name lookups no longer require decrypting the data first.

In a 6 Oct post, MongoDB says Queryable Encryption now supports prefix, suffix and substring queries, with substring search covering fields up to 50 characters and terms of 2 to 6 characters. MongoDB says the feature is free in Atlas, Enterprise Advanced and Community Edition. The post does not say what these queries reveal to the server, and CTN has not tested the feature.
