CEO Amjad Masad says OpenAI is now Replit’s preferred partner on performance, cost and partnership; users can still pick Anthropic’s Claude.
Replit has made OpenAI’s models the default for Replit Agent, its AI app-building tool. Chief executive Amjad Masad first said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt that Replit was no longer working with Anthropic, then clarified on X on Saturday that “Replit remains model agnostic” and that users can still choose Anthropic models. “OpenAI is now our preferred partner powering Agent based on performance, cost, and strength of our partnership,” he wrote. TechCrunch reports that a person familiar with the Anthropic relationship said the partnership is still in place, and that Masad said Replit had until recently been one of Anthropic’s top five customers. Because most users keep a default model, the change could shift spend between the two labs, TechCrunch notes.
