Bloomberg and Reuters, each citing people familiar with the matter, report the Chinese AI lab has raised roughly 100 billion yuan, with battery maker CATL and Tencent among the largest backers; DeepSeek has not confirmed.
DeepSeek has raised about 100 billion yuan, or $15 billion, in one of China’s largest-ever funding rounds, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday night, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters separately reported, citing four people with knowledge of the matter, that the Hangzhou-based lab is wrapping up a round of that size, roughly double its original 50 billion yuan target, with Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and Tencent among the biggest investors. One of Reuters’ sources said the deal is set to close in the coming days but that financial details and the investor lineup could still change. DeepSeek has not confirmed the round; Reuters said it could not reach the company for comment. The reported round comes days after the US Department of Homeland Security ordered federal civilian agencies to remove DeepSeek technology from their systems.
