A beta Agent Gateway lets approved agents shop Walmart and Sam’s Club through a structured connection rather than the website, and Agent Profiles arriving in the next month will keep agent purchases separate.

Walmart said on Wednesday it is building the Walmart Agent Gateway, which uses MCP, an open protocol for connecting AI agents to services, to let agents shop Walmart and Sam’s Club without clicking through a website built for people. It starts as a beta for companies and developers. Agent Profiles, due within the next month, will give each authorised agent its own profile inside a customer’s account, with purchases shown separately and either per-purchase approval or a spending limit the customer sets. Walmart has also published terms for agents: they do not receive customers’ card details, must not act beyond what the shopper intends, and will be blocked if they break the rules. Walmart says agents see the same prices as human shoppers. TechCrunch notes the move comes shortly after Amazon began blocking AI agents from making purchases on behalf of online shoppers.
